Three questions to experts on Migration in the Mediterranean region

Theo Francken, Belgian Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Eugenio Ambrosi, Director of the Regional Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for the EU, Norway and Switzerland, Heather Grabbe, Director of the Open Society European Policy Institute, Professor Ibrahim Awad, Director of the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies at The American University in Cairo and Dr Amanda Klekowski von Koppenfels, Academic Director at Brussels School of International Studies, answer three questions on Migration in the Mediterranean region:

What is your assessment of the way the EU has managed the refugee crisis?
In your opinion, what are the key remaining/unresolved challenges in the refugee crisis?
Thinking beyond the crisis, what should be the priority in the EU’s migration governance?

These interviews were carried out at the event ‘Thinking beyond the crisis: Future governance of migration in Europe’, co-organised by the Migration Policy Centre (MPC) and the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) on 20 June 2017 in Brussels. The event was made possible through the support of the IOM Development Fund and the US State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.
