The Migration Policy Centre at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies will host the launch of the Special Issue of the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science on “Migrant Smuggling as a Collective Strategy and Insurance Policy: Views from the Margins”

The collection of 11 essays showcases what smuggling facilitation services mean to those who rely on them and to the people behind them. Notions of care, protection, solidarity and respect, of survival
and knowledge across borders and amidst violence and conflict, and the will to live a dignified life emerge in these essays based on fieldwork conducted in Latin America, the US, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia among smuggling facilitators and those who rely on their services.

We invite you to join us for a conversation with some of the contributors to the special issue that will explore on migrants’ journeys, the increasing criminalization of those who facilitate them, and what together they mean for the future of migration policy and enforcement worldwide.

The launch will be followed by a reception.
