Seminar – The Drivers of the Brexit Vote: What we know so far, by Professor Matthew Goodwin, 4 December 2017, EUI, Florence
Professor Matthew Goodwin (University of Kent) examines the dynamics of the 2016 vote for Brexit. Drawing on individual level survey data and aggregate data, as well as established theories of Euroscepticism, he investigates the factors that led 52 per cent of voters in Britain, and nearly 54 per cent in England, to vote to leave the European Union. Matthew also explores other research on the vote, and considers the implications of this research for British politics going forward. Matthew is co-author of the books Revolt on the Right (Routledge), UKIP: Inside the Campaign (Oxford University Press), and Brexit: Why Britain Voted to Leave the European Union (Cambridge University Press). His talk is be followed by a discussion with Hanspeter Kriesi, Professor at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the European University Institute, Dr James Dennison, Research Fellow at the Migration Policy Centre, and Sophia Hunger, Researcher at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the European University Institute.
